Japan betrays Taiwan - again

Taipei - Taiwan on Tuesday protested a Japanese court ruling granting to China a student dormitory in Japan that is claimed by both Taiwan and China.

The Chinese Nationalist Government, which fled to Taiwan after losing the Chinese Civil War in 1949, bought Kokaryo in 1952 for Taiwanese students in Kyoto, but it was also open to students from the mainland.
I blame the DPP administration for not taking a tough enough stance with Tokyo in getting back Taiwan’s property.

This is bad. The legal wranglings went on for years and for awhile, things were looking up. It seems unbelievable that the Supreme Court threw out the lower Osaka court’s 1987 ruling–what happened in between??? Is there anyone here who’s familiar with the case? It seems like it’s pretty much the end of the line for the legal option.

Was it Taiwan’s property or the Republic of China’s property?

Taiwan is subset of ROC. It shud then rightfully belong to ROC. No dispute about that but
we lost it anyway. :frowning:

I doubt the DPP has notice this.Since they are busy for the next Presidential election .

I blame.

Taiwan is subset of ROC.

If Taiwan is a subset of the ROC then what does the rest of the ROC consist of??

Matzu and Jinmen for starters.

Isn’t that kind of like saying “My Nigerian phisher internet friend abused our friendship and hurt my feelings by taking my money when he was supposed to deposit 5 million USD into my account”?

I mean, it’s international politics here. Betrayal isn’t exactly the word. Taiwan is a nice bargaining chip, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t expect Abe to fly over here dressed as a geisha and give everybody lap dances.

No I didn’t.

Good point. Japan does not have to always live up to Taiwan’s expectations. I’ll bet there was a practical factor. Japanese usually make decisions based primarily on common sense. Taiwanese almost always first look at the political implications thanks in part to all the talk shows.
