The Bank of Japan doesnât need to raise interest rates to tamp down consumer demand in response to inflation. Japanese consumers are frugal and tend to live within their means, unlike western consumers:
not just western consumers, the entire western society seem addicted to bad debts. All that COVID stimulus sounds great and all but itâs all bad debts, printed money and stuff.
Of course Taiwan, Japan arenât raising interest rates because they arenât printing money.
If Taiwan had fiscal policy like the US weâd end up like Argentina or worse, Venezuela.
Has anyone had recent experience of the entry formalities into Japan?
Specifically the onerous âVisit Japan Webâ online form submission.
We used it back in February only to find out that when we got there (Fukuoka) that the old Paper forms were still in use. That doesnât seem to have changed since, though our login details seem to have expired and I donât fancy going through the whole rigmarole of registering again.
I used it to good effect to Nagoya a couple weeks ago. I liked that I could put my momâs details in so she wouldnât have to deal with any of it, and I could access everything in one place. There were stations with paper forms on arrival, but nothing was handed out on the plane (maybe they had them if you asked).
Arenât they just going to raise prices to compensate?
The yenâs depreciation has been so dramatic that in US dollar terms Japan has now fallen behind Germany and now apparently has the fourth largest economy in the world. ![]()

If all of your clientele is foreign then that could work. So it depends where/what exactly.
Also I recommend getting the Kumamon JCB dual currency card from E.Sun bank, you can charge JPY without fees at a great exchange rate (it looks like Iâm getting the interbank exchange rate) and get extra cashback for spending in Japan.
They also advertise support for PayPay in Japan but this is a lie, digital wallet features (as fucking usual) are only available to Taiwanese people. If you have an ID card you could use that, to those of us without ID cards, go fuck ourselves.
I am struggling to understanding your point. Could you please write more directly and stop beating around the bush? ![]()

Use AirBNB , some go deals on rooms or hostels are cheap. Use the local bath house, cheap to clean up and can try chat up with locals.
Iâm planning on going for 3 days. Need to get my travel documents sorted out first. Iâm not sure itâs enough time to go to a bathhouse. Do they exist in Japan?
Sure, local bath places are many. Make sure you know how to use them and some not allow people with tatto (I see a lot more in Taiwan recently) , if so try to cover it or go to one that is ok with it. Also some Taiwanese shy to go nude, in group but that is what it is.
Hotels have them too. Standards vary from very basic to luxury.
But do they have the gay kind?
What does this mean exactly?
Of course. Do your research!

Apparently thatâs not possible without violating the site rules here ![]()
Sorry to spoil the party. ![]()
Itâs alright, weâll just have to use our imaginations ![]()
What should we (Taiwan residents with NHI) do when traveling to Japan for 3 weeks? Enroll in some short-term medical insurance plan? Is there any NHI coverage abroad?
I typically purchase something from insubuy.com when traveling to the US.
In the UK I (perhaps naively) decided that what the NHS offer visitors was good enough. How to access NHS services in England if you are visiting from abroad - NHS
In SEA we generally just self-insure.
