Abe Shinzo will step down because of health issues.

Japanese have had a really long streak of bad luck. Political instability in the middle of a pandemic is really bad.

Good for him putting his health first. Hope he gets some much needed rest.

Abe and the people of Japan had so much hope for the new Reiwa period

So at the end of the article it just tosses in that WW2 isn’t actually over yet because of Japan and Russia? Wtf?

Here’s a take:

Abe’s been a great friend to Taiwan, so this kinda made me nervous because his replacement will probabilistically speaking not be as good.

But Suga, his successor, might turn out to be even *more * pro-Taiwan. Reports say he’ll call Tsai.

The new defense minister is also a pro-Taiwan hawk.

Whoever wrote this article knows a lot about Taiwan and Japan relations.

Taiwan, claimed by China as its own territory, has close cultural and historic ties with Japan, though Japan, like most countries, recognises China’s government in Beijing, not Taiwan’s.

Unlike in China or South Korea, many Taiwanese have a broadly positive view of Japan, saying that Japan’s rule brought progress to what was an undeveloped, largely agricultural island.

Why?

Unrequited love for Japan.

They always go for the bad boys.
