Joyous news Marks and spencers coming to KHH

I think they’ll follow the BKK store and have a mix of food and clothes; Manila is the same.

*And KHH stands for K-town by the way; don’t know what all this G-word business is all about. Too much phonics as a small child perhaps?

Mmm… British sandwiches and instant curries. I’m drooling already. The only good thing about London were the grocery stores and the sandwich shops. And if they import some of those Indian restaurants that put most of the ones here to shame, I might reconsider leaving Taiwan.

I go to berkeley for good indian food all the time

Yes, I was delighted to read that interview with M&S’s man in Taiwan and have confirmation that they will be selling food.

I can hardly wait for the first Taipei store to open, so in the meantime I’ll probably have to make a trip down to Dream Mall on the HSR.

Mr. Walker, if you happen to see this thread (and I really hope you become a regular participant here), please, please make sure to include bags of mixed plain nuts among your stock of foods.

Less than 10% food. No chilled food. In other words, sweet bugger all. What an unsurprising let-down. M&S Lite, in other words.

Poor Sandman. It’s not like he even wears underwear either.

But at least they’re going to tailor their stock to what the Taiwanese want, he says. Great. Because we can always use more instant noodles and toilet paper.

It’s not like he uses toilet paper either.

Oh that reminds me. I have ginger snaps and Tetley tea from M&S Brunei. Time for a cuppa.

They were selling ginger snaps in Tesco, and I bought trolleyfuls of them before the buggers upped and fled the island.

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that our M&S will also be stocking these tasty little dunkers.

Hi all. My first post here and sorry it’s a disappointing one :frowning:

Well I went over to check out this M&S store to confirm reports by my wife that there was no food there. Just couldn’t beleive there would be nothing after their manager gave that report in the papar saying there would be.
Saw one foreign guy walking out just as we were going in and he looked like he had just been corn-holed and had nothing else on his mind but to get back to Manchester.

What a huge disappointment and a crap store with a depressing feeling to it with a few funky clothes choices.
About the only thing in there I’d be interested in is the socks for these freezing winter days.
My mother-in-law did see a few things she was interested in.
Some of the panties might look good on the wife.
If you are into extra long and pointy wing-tipped shoes there is a nice selection of those—should be a real hit with the betel nutters down south here. M&S is bound to add some flavor to the local clothes fashion! I can just see all the Xiao-Jye’s here walking around in long white cotton beach dresses with flowery prints on them

I Checked every corner of the store thinking the food must be hidden away but there is nothing there…not a single pack of even candy or gingersnaps.
Sorry to have to report this.

After M&S we went to check out the newly opened Hankyu department store which takes up a large section of the mall which we have already seen. Well it’s a department store is all, with mainly clothes and makeup, but without any food court. The women I was with informed me there was nothing special there. Massive 39 N.T. shop on the top floor and picked up some nice clamps and sandpaper.

As for the rest of the mall…definately worth going to and trying the ferris wheel for some excellent views of Kaohsiung! Be sure and have your camera.
Looks like a nice movie theater there and the new Mr. Bean movie will come out soon.
Don’t expect anything special in food choices at this Mall especially for western food…there is a McDonald’s and also TGI’s…and all the usual Taiwanese dept store food choices of course. 7th floor has a Japanese food street worth going to and an all-you-can eat seafood hotpot which we enjoyed.
Oh! and on the same floor I think is the “China Town” food street! It has an entranceway with “China Town” on it and this is a big hit for the locals to take their pics in front of giving the victory sign. Walking around in there really gives you the feeling of being in China Town.

One more thing. There’s a nice kiddies play room–maybe 6th floor. Costs like 200 but well worth it if you want to let the kids run around and burn off some energy. All the rides, jungle gym, ballon and ball rooms etc…are covered safely to prevent any injuries. Entrance is limited to kids about 4 years and younger who must be accompanied by a parent–(although most seem to be dumped off while their parents run down to “China Town” for photo sessions), 200 n.t. gets you all day entrance on weekdays but only 1 hour on weekends. Must be wearing socks to get in but if you don’t have any, one the Xiao-Jye’s will gladly show you their huge selection for sale at the entranceway.
The basement has a much larger play area that looks pretty good–this is for older kids.
Plenty of parking around the mall and in the basement but the weekends are very crowded.

Greetings, ab12! Welcome to F-com, and thanks for the report.

'Tis a dismal tale, indeed! I can forget about making an HSR trip down to Kaohsiung just for that. What a disappointment it would have been if I’d done so on spec - I’d have been fuming and cursing all the way back to Taipei.

I suppose there’s a tiny possibility that they’ll start by introducing a small selection of food in Taipei only, where there’s more likely to be a market for it. But I won’t be holding out too much hope.

Omniloquacious,
I thought maybe the food shipment was delayed for some reason and that they would set up the food shelves later. The shop is pretty small and looks like all the space is already planned and used for the clothes. If I do hear of any changes I’ll post it here.

Just can’t believe a managing director would make such an announcement only days before opening. Is this guy well informed or what? :help:
Did the food shipment get rejected by customs at the last minute maybe?

“Walker: Also, we have food products. M&S in the UK is famous for the quality of its food. We’ll bring as many products as we can to Taiwan, except chilled foodstuffs. Our specialty food includes cookies, sweets, chocolates, Christmas items and M&S wine.”

Maybe they’ll have this stuff for X-mas.

It’s hard to understand! The Taipei Times should get one of their reporters on to the phone to him to ask for an explanation.

Let’s hope so, at least.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! :roflmao:
You’re a card, Omni! A real card!

“Ask”

:roflmao:

Those bozos don’t “ask,” silly. They open press packs or write down statements at press conferences.

Oh, so they’ve done away with trimming and adding typos to newswires?

HG

Putting the kibbosch on their stock-in-trade? Surely you jest?
