Just another cry for help

Well, It seems the future mrs p has taken a job in Taoyuen (SP???) Taipei county. We currently live in Taichung. So Patterson will be moving in June. What order should I take things in? I guess my ARC will be handed in? Do I have to go through all that shit again? I guess so.
Whats the general opinion on how to pick up and move across this country?
Patterson.

Why do you have to relinquish your ARC? I never have when we moved. Do you have your ARC through your wife or what?

I think Patterson is asking what he has to do if he gets a new job. It’s a long way to commute between Taoyuan and Taichung.
If you just move house, you just get the address on your ARC changed.

2 replies??? 104 people read my post, and only 2 felt they could help? Darn. Is this because the guanxi system has gone, or because you just dont give a shit about this thread?
Maybe the mods can move it to the open forum, it may flourish there.

It’s my fault. I read it 102 times and never answered.

Good answer! All is forgiven RichardM. You helped me out when my relationship was shitty, so the slate has been wiped.

You should turn in your ARC to your old employer because they can not give another teacher an ARC while you still have yours. You new employer in Taayuan should be able to arange one for you. (if you find a job).

Or get a letter from you current emplyer so you can transfer your ARC. Best advice is the latter. At least oyu wont have to leave the country if thing goe balls up.

Neither. Perhaps like me they don’t know the answer to your particular question. :unamused:

i read it and wasn’t sure if i could contribute something constructive. was hoping someone knows what is going on.

the laws regulating ARCs and such have been revamped. since i am going home in a matter of days i haven’t really read up on such.

having revealed such, it is imperative that you head on over to www.tealit.com and click on the "royally good news"banner. it relates how now you can transfer your ARC in a seemingly much easier way than in the past. basically, find a new job. get hired. let the the bosses hash it out.

i have not read reports of anyone who has yet completed the new transfer system. please keep the community posted of your progress.

best wishes.

mrs. patterson,

I thought all you had to do was to go to the new county police department and have them amend your arc on the back to indicate your new address. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Aren’t you the one that was advised to get shod of this woman? To move out and start a new life on your own? Or is this a new woman?

Somewhat true, but don’t turn over the physical ARC card to anyone. Even if it is expired it shows that you did have one and are not bullshitting anyone when you say you want to transfer. True, you will need to get another one if it expires (another NT$1,000) but it is up to your former employer, not you, to do the paperwork to cancel the ARC.
And your former employer may have an allowance for ARCs that he has not filled, so one of the things you need to do is make sure that he does take you off the books when you apply for a new one or apply for change of employer.

And isn’t Taoyuan the “Venice of northern Taiwan” or am I thinking of Sanchung?

Once you’re married you’ll qualify for an ARC through your wife. You’ll apply as “joining family”. Then you can hop on over to the Ministry of Labor to get a work permit for life for the low, low price of just NT$100!! This will allow you to do anything that a local can do. If a local would need a special license to do his/her job then so would you. You can work anywhere and not be bound by an ARC or work permit. Ask Richard Hartzell more about it. It’s his brainchild.

I know Richard has campaigned on behalf of foreigners for equal rights with regard to employment, but I am not sure OWP was ‘his brainchild’ as you put it.

By the way, I believe the OWP is no longer necessary if you have the JFRV.

Yeah, but Iggy, isn’t there still a wait of a year or something before you can do the “joining family” thing. The laws are changing so fast…

We are suitably chastened! The most important thing is obviously to make sure that

is available in Taoyuan.
