Kaohsiung Handbook

The sweet f.a. (Foreign Affairs) police department in Kaohsiung have just published a guide, “Handbook for Foreigners in Kaohsiung City” which is free to a good home. Pick one up from their HQ. It’s got some reasonable info, and good at the price. Interestingly, they have used the “Tong-yong” system for transliteration. Sure to annoy Cranky Laowai.
Oh, do any Segue members actually live in Kaohsiung? Seems 80% of people on this forum are Taipei residents.

I should just take such things in stride, but, yes, I am annoyed and frustrated by such nonsense. :imp:

I’d be willing to bet, though, that their use of TY is filled with errors. (The more things change, the more they stay the same.)

Is the city calling itself Gaosyong now?

Kaohsiung has been retained. Everything else is “Tong-yong” shite!!!

I have noticed that Gaoxiong in hanyu pinyin is very similar to Gouxiong. This may be due to the fact that the Drinking Season has begun in Ireland and I have partaken of a few ales. Yesh it ish only 6 o’clock here, but I’m only shtopping for dinner. Then itsh back to the pub.
