Kenting or Green Island for CNY?

Was wondering if I could get anyone’s input on this… I’m trying to decide between Kenting or Green Island for Chinese New Year. The main factor that would influence my decision is how many people will be at either location and whether the weather will be nice (enough). I understand that Green Island is going to be colder than Kenting in February, but is it uncomfortably so? Also, how is Kenting in general? What is there to do there besides lying on the beach? I’ve heard great things about Green Island but haven’t heard much about Kenting. Will Kenting be way too packed on CNY?

I appreciate any advice, thanks!

i don’t think you ll see a lot of people during CNY. According to me it is not the best time to travel. since there is nothing outside, restaurants are closed etc. (except chain restaurants).
Personally, I’d try Kenting if you have never been there.

Kending is totally crowded during CNY. I’ve done that 4 times. It also has much better weather than almost anywhere in Taiwan at that time: generally sunny and warmish, but with occasional rain. It is more of a party place than Green Island. There will be many restaurants open, good ones too, and loads of people on the street and on the beach.

Hi, everyone,

I run a small B+B in Kending. During CNY, restaurants and shops are open even on CNY eve. The weather is usually nice and warm enough for westerns. It’s very difficult for People living Taipei to believe how good weather down here, even it is wet and cold in Taipei.

You will expect tons of tourists here during CNY. It’s kind of late to book accommodation now. However, if you can arrange to visit Kending before CNY or on the 4th or 5th day of CNY, you can enjoy a more relaxing holiday. The 2nd to 4th day of CNY is our businest days.

Wish you HAPPY NEW YEAR ~
