Key Copied

I’m trying to get a copy of my apartment key made in Taipei - any ideas? A place where I don’t have to speak Mandarin would be ideal!

Thanks!

There are small key and stamp stores every few blocks all over Taipei. They usually have a sign with a picture of - you guessed it - a key! Walk in, hold up your key, they’ll know what you want.

If you’re near Shita, do the following:

  1. Walk down Shita Road, away from the university (heading toward Roosevelt Rd.)

  2. Turn left the first chance you get (on a real street, not into the NTNU dorms, unless you have other things on the agenda as well.)

  3. Continue until you reach a small cross-street. The venerable woman we have called “Key Lady” for over 10 years has her “shop” here on the left-hand side across the small cross street (which is Longquan St., BTW, but you’d probably never figure that out from the way things are labeled.)

  4. Wave the key at her. She is used to foreigners and makes darn good keys!
Also a great source for apartments and rooms to rent. If you can take a Mandarin-speaker with you (or Taiwanese speaker, for that matter) she will “analyze” your needs and recommend rooms for you, which may or may not be on the bulletin board she maintains (and controls) behind the pay phone at her “establishment”. The best rooms go only to the folks she knows, in the best Taiwanese tradition! But she’s great.

Hi,
there is a MISTER MINIT in the basement of Takashimaya in Tianmu, just next to Mc Donald’s!
