Kids & stomach bug

My 5 year old son is in the hospital now with some kind of stomach bug. They tell me it’s like the entirovirus (sp?), but then again it’s not. Nasty Puking and diarhea. Slight fever.

I have googled, and such, and am mainly interested if any folks have seen this before, and how that applies to health care in Taiwan.

Thanks for any input

J

Prevalent in Taiwan in Summer. Care needs to be taken with washing hands after using the toilet (it is in poo). Mostly picked up in childcare/schools. Shouldn’t be a problem but is a reportable health condition for the local authorities. Nast epidemic in the late 80s(?) killed a lot of schoolkids. Don’t worry. You could google “cocksackie virus” too.

Wow Gingerman, that sucks and it must be terrible to have your son go thorugh this.

My son got his butt kicked by a virus this summer, totally wiped out physically, wouldn’t eat, and had to have blood drawn twice…ugh.

Just stay positive, bring in toys and things, read stories, take wheelchair adventure trips down the halls, and yes, wash the hands all the time.

It’s a virus and there’s really nothing they can give him for it. Just have to ride it out.

Good luck brother. :rainbow:

We went through this summer 2004 with three kids 11 months to 7 years old. It was really bad for my 7 yo but my 2 younger ones were breastfeeding so they could at least keep that down. The 7 yo lost a lot of weight and we had our neighborhood doc keeping an eye him, seeing him almost daily. Didn’t want to put him through the trauma of a hospital stay but we came very close.

I hope your boy recovers soon, just stay close, give him lots of TLC and ‘touch’ (I’ve read somewhere that sometimes the loving touch of a parent can bring a temp down slightly, must be something like kangaroo care for preemies).

Not sure what you mean, but yeah the human contact thing is very important. Always has been for me. It works wonders. Good to give, good to get! Fugg, yeah

Thanks for yer angle dudes. jdsmith, especially. Calmed me down quite a bit.

Now I’m off for a drive to the beach. Before I head back to the hospital. Only good thing about this, it brings the relatives out of the woodwork!
Wish me luck!
