KMT Parliamentary Clashes - Forced Legislation and Subsequent Protests

Driving south to pingtung through Taitung today. Stuck behind a long line of cars supporting the recalls.

They went full old school on this one, election/temple style. Changed languages from mandarin to taiwanese to hakka and to whichever aboriginal language (I was stuck behind them that long!)

So eventuallt it was in pilipino??? Interesting…

Indigenous languages in what is now called Taiwan are Austronesian languages but are not the same as Tagalog / Filipino.

Either Bunnan or Amis. I honestly don’t know how to tell them difference.

Which tribe is Pilipino?

We are talking about taiwan, politics and tribes within this country. I don’t get the YouTube video…? Anyway, they were speaking languages as theyvpass by certain areas. Shows a deeper level of diligence to try and get people out to vote.

Good for them.

An excellent overview from Commonwealth Magazine, with Kwangyin Liu interviewing Academia Sinica’s Nathan Batto (of Frozen Garlic fame) about what this recall campaign might mean. Recommended! Transcript is below; it also appears in podcast form as linked in the story.
