KMT-Taiwanesen Nationalist Party

It’s been a number of years since Phil 101,
but is this ‘logical progression’ or just ‘real cute’ ?
Taipei Times, Feb. 8, Op-Ed page, “What’s in a name?”
Charles Hong, Columbus Ohio,
from paragraph five:

“The proposed new name for China Shipbuilding Corp (CSBC)
is Taiwan Shipbuilding Corp, but it was reported the old
acronym (sic), CSBC, will be kept. If so, this will simply mean
more confusion, implying that China is Taiwan and vice versa.
Let’s keep it simple and use TSBC as the acronym (sic)
for the new name.
Similarly, China Airlines should be rechristened Taiwan Airlines.
China Steel should be changed to Taiwan Steel and the nation’s
Olympic team should change it’s awkward ‘Chinese Taipei’ to
‘Taiwan’.
If Taiwan wants official independence, it can declare independence
from the Republic of China and change it’s name to Republic of
Taiwan. The name change will unify the national identity. The Chinese
Nationalist Party (KMT) should consider changing it’s name to the
Taiwanese Nationalist Party or the Nationalist Party if it doesn’t
want to be considered a foreign political party.”

  • just doesn’t work for me.

heh heh"loose lips sink ships",
lose the final n in Taiwnese(n).
-not pertinent.

[quote=“Foreigner Charles Hong from Columbus, Ohio,”]“The Chinese

I suppose the foreign Chinese Nationalist Party better reconsider their position, if they want support from foreigner Charles Hong and foreigner ccpcannonfodder.

Just a few days ago, after this sort of criticism, CSB speaking publicly said that in some cases (the gas station at least) the more Taiwanese name was already registered by someone else. ie. Taiwan Petroleum Corporation was taken.

Well I guess CSB can spend more tax dollars to buy back the name from the presumptuous individual.

considering the prevalent “Taiwanizing” trend, perhaps Ma’s succeessor would find it profitable in such a renaming. At least for the benefit of an international audience.

However for the native version, given their sinocentric sentiments, the party should be renamed shenmindang.

i believe there is some device with which a government can claim any name it wants , even it its registered to another entity within the same nation.

im no lawyer so i dont know the legalese involved, but i do think there is such an instrument

Tommy,

If that is the case, what difference is there between Taiwan and the PRC.

Why don’t they just give Charles Hong (proclaiming independence from the safety of Columbus, OH since 1999! ™ a column and free up some space in the letters section for someone else for a change?

i acquiesce, the greeks were correct.
“SHOOT THE MESSENGER!”

In this case, the messenger is indestructible because it is likely a robot.

Yeah, there’s a place called the Taiwan Straits between them. Never heard of the PRC straits!!!

One is an island, one is part of a continent which gave over part of itself recently to the Rusians cause it didnt want to start a war it couldnt win.
