has anyone ever worked for this school? i’m signing a contract for august in hsin-chu and haven’t heard much about the schools reputation or the town of hsin-chu itself. let me know if you have any info or advice!
There have been posts made on this forum in the past about this school, why don’t you click on the search function at the top right of this page and conduct a search.
You mention that you are starting a contract in August, so my question to you is this. Has the school explained the situation with Income Tax to you? This is quite relevant considering your proposed start date. If they haven’t then I would give them a miss for that reason alone as either they don’t know or they don’t think that you need to know. Either way they may not prove to be the best employer.

20 percent is normal. The problem is you won’t get anything back if you stayed less than 183 days/year (which will be the case if you start in August). Thus, if there is any way, it might be wiser to start earlier.

Yes. 20% is the standard requirement during your first 183 days here. Provided you get through the 183 day mark in the first tax year (January to December) that you are here, then you are entitled to a partial refund of tax paid. By starting work in August you will not be able to meet this cut off and therefore you will forfeit all taxes that you pay up until December 31st.
