Japan ‘bumping gang’ deliberately collides with pedestrians, mostly women, to vent frustrations

I haven’t seen people being knocked down yet, but bumping shoulder and fleeing quickly is quite common in Taiwan.

Ignores the fact that largely, a very very small part of applicants will get in to the US legally within any reasonable timeframe. Hence, there is a large subset of illegal immigrants who don’t have qualifications, much less money, and sometimes poor intentions. If you factor them in, it’s probably pretty comparable if to the folks Europe gets in terms of skill and socioeconomic status.

The US spreads them out a lot more though. That makes a significant impact. I worked alongside a guy who was most likely an illegal immigrant out in the suburbs. Europe is more densely urbanized, meaning the immigrant population definitely wells into the places that the most folks go through.

And much like in the US, they tend to find their own folk. Much like foreigners in TW. I think there are obvious issues with integration for sure, once again like foreigners in TW. Think this is related to the question of resources invested into it. Many of the refugees that arrive in Europe are not being holed up anywhere nice - this is not nescessary - but it also usually doesn’t come with some promise of a job or language learning support. I personally believe that investments into these folks will pay for themselves over the long term in terms of economic contribution, at least for the younger amongst them. Europe increasingly needs more blue collar workers, and these folks absolutely can fill these roles and rebuild their lives in whichever country they’ve arrived in. I’d assume - and I think I’m right in assuming this - most would much prefer a stable income, a nice roof over their head, and establishing a real life in the country they have taken painstaking efforts to leave their homeland for.

Might be alike public education, which essentially pays for itself. Economic studies done by modern economists (read: not the Thomas Sowells and such; it really took ecnomics a long time to have access to significant sums of actual data, and to get used to using it) have shown that the money invested is essentially returned long-term in taxes and economic productivity. It is the coveted free lunch. This might not be the same level of such, but it certainly lays the bricks for a generation or two after to be much more significantly economically productive.

Just my 2c. The flipside of the US ostensibly receiving a lot of legal, skilled worker immigrants is that it receives way more illegal ‘unskilled’/blue collar laborers despite actually having less people who theoretically could have access to it. USA mostly just has South America, Europe has Africa, much of near Asia.

So beautiful  don’t you love the melting pot of illegal immigration in France?

I don’t get it. Immigrants are dirty or something?

Mostly immigrant areas are dirtier. I love Chinatown and the mess is part of the charm. But I would not live there.

It’s not PC but it’s right in front of our eyes.

I don’t know about the Chinatowns in America but in Australia the supermarkets in them all smell like dead corpses

Paris has always been like that. The dots do not connect unless you’re the type who blames every social ill on immigrants. There was no crime, poverty, or squalor before those people came. Paris was all joie de vivre!

“If you’re a hammer, everything looks like nail.” Some people are just monomaniacally obsessed.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not inherent to immigrant areas while kind of being inherent in the description of a “Chinatown” - urban, tight, lots of retail and restaurants, relatively poor, etc that make a it a bit dirtier. Other areas with lots of immigrants that don’t fit that description, including heavy asian areas, are just areas with a lot of Asians. Instead of calling it Chinatown, it’s just Monterey Park (for example, which has more Asians (raw numbers and percentage) than Chinatown LA), with a lot of Asians and Asian restaurants.

Europe have different kinds of Immigrants as other places too, but probably more distinct differences in Europe due to closer to Middle East/African refugee areas

  • Immigrants for work and studies, good for Europe as needed
  • Refugees that are really escaping terror. Good not only as an humanitarian act, but these groups are generally thankful to escape terror and tries to make a new life in Europe through hard work
  • Refugees that tries to sneak in by claiming refugee status, but in reality just trying to sneak in and does all in their powers to utilize the system without any kind of contributions… Dreams of the golden and easy life in Europe that turns into disappointments and crime
  • ….

Any chinatown in twn???
