Hi!
Where can I find a KTV place that has English-speaking staff in Taipei? I’m also looking for a place that has English, Japanese, Korean, and of course Mandarin songs…
I’m not looking for a hostess-girl KTV place–just looking for a regular place that has private rooms.

Well Charles, that would be a real crap shoot as KTV is almost exclusively for locals. You will find some English songs (and probably some Japanese and Korean ones too) but it will be of the John Denver, Carpenters variety or if lucky maybe some more recent cheese. As for the English support staff, you just have to hope that someone working speaks a bit of English at the KTV you visit.
At some of the nicer hostess KTVs a large percentage of the girls on staff are college students, so ironically they might be your best bet.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, there was a good one that I went to in Ximen last week–they had a great selection of English songs–rock (Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Keane), pop (Britney Spears), R&B (Usher), a great selection of The Beatles catalogue, etc. I didn’t try speaking English with them (a friend reserved the spot), but maybe they do…

Hello , I’m curious which KTV you went in Ximen had great selection of English song ? I might try it out sometimes , thank you ! 
that Ximen place sounds like a regular cashbox KTV.
Last time I went to a KTV, I was with my wife (only girlfriend then) and her cousins and sister. It was near Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station. After thinking a lot, I ended up singing some Frank Sinatra songs, but there weren’t many english songs (just a couple of cheesy pop ones, barely any rock songs). Almost everything in the list was in mandarin. I would have liked to have more songs to choose from.
(Truth is, even when I really like to sing, I don’t encourage my wife to go to KTV, because she is REALLY tone-deaf and her singing is awful… even her family says so, and that’s why they don’t encourage her, either) :roflmao:
But I have to say… she really tries, and she likes to… sadly, she can’t tune. I don’t even know how she managed to play the piano when she was younger…
yeah, most people can’t sing unfortunately… and often they pick songs they love which are totally not the right songs for them, if they are auditioning for the American idol. But KTV is about sharing time with friends, i think… some times i am pretty confused too.
