Lakeside frog bonanza

A few years back I picnicked at Dahu Park (大湖公園) in Taipei and encountered so many frogs hopping out of the lake that I inadvertently brought some home with me in my backpack.

Does anyone know what time of year this tends to happen? Is this a regular ritual for frogs?

June. They’re Taiwan common toads. The skin is poisonous if I recall.

My wife told me recently the local government in Nantou warned that there are a lot of poisonous frogs out and about. Do not kiss them even if they are cute. :happy_frog:

Only toads, just 2 here, have poison glands. Unless you are torturing them and squeezing them, they dont poison you. People eat them here…also sold in TCM.

The whole thing is just a myth kept up by cruel people hurting them and eating them. Vastly different than anything venomous.
