I’m learning chinese (I’m married to a Taiwanese woman) and being a programmer I’ve designed a little website where you can learn chinese. It increases the active vocabulary as you are learning and you can listen to the words and most of the characters have examples.
Um…right. This is not a “I made a little site, hope you like it” deal, this is a “we are hoping to make money off you” deal. Having said that, I doubt anyone is going to “learn Chinese” from this site. Typical presentation of a single word (the sound files are okay, I suppose, and there seems to be a Supermemo-style arrangement to control repetitions of flashcards) with a long, unexplained example sentence in which the single word sometimes appears in what would be a mysterious combination to a beginner (for example, “deng3” for “wait” appears as “deng3 bu4 ji2” “can’t wait to…” which, as a resuiltative compound, would be confusing).
The website is more a trainer for new words not for in-depth explanation of how sentences work. As such it works quite well for me to learn new characters. The interactive language course is free. Granted I also sell a CD on eBay but thats up to the user if he wants that. I cannot afford to give away CDs for free of course, like you cannot offer your translation services in your signatures for free, can you? (some links of your website are not working by the way)
