Laser Hair Removal

I’m tired of shaving my legs. I hate waxing and am looking for alternate measures…

I was looking into laser hair removal in Canada, but it’s to damn expensive.

Anyone know of any affordable, reputable laser hair removal clinics in Taipei?

Dunno about laser removal but on the same subject I’ve been looking to buy a home wax kit from somewhere (anywhere!)? I’ve heard that waxing done by “pro’s” here is baaad and the only other option is to get someone from home to mail some over.

I use an epilator. I only waxed back home but couldn’t find it here. The epilator works well and only cost about $1000NT. It was a bit painful at first, but I love it now (not so sticky as wax!). You can buy them at Watsons and Carrefour (and maybe other places too…).

Can you explain more about the epilator contraption? Sounds interesting. This shaving business gets really monotonous…

An elipalor is kind of like an electric razor, but instead of shaving the hair off, it rips it out from the roots. It’s pretty painful.

The upside is… the more you do it the less it hurts.

The down side is you have to let your hair grow out. Your hair has to be long enough to be “ripped out” (about 1/2 cm). The results are similar to waxing. Regrowth can take 2 weeks - 1 month.

It’s better than shaving, but it’s still a pain in the ass. :idunno:

Thanks–sounds, yeah, painful, but appealing. Does it look like an electric razor? As in, if I walk into Watsons or Carrefour, will I recognize it?

I still would prefer to wax. It’s much quicker and it’s the same philosophy, ripping the roots of your hair out. It grows back much slower and the more you wax, the slower it grows back.
Of course, wax is a little messier but it’s very fast. The pain is very brief and you get used to it as well.

I admire you ladies going through all this pain just sos to not look like sasquatch.

Can I use this thing on my back hair??

I was thinking about Laser hair removal as well, but it’s very expensive, you need to go for more than once usually and the hair will grow back anyways in half a year to 2 years. It’s not permanent or else I would have splurged.

An epliator looks almost identical to an electric razor… At least mine does, I can’t speak for all models. Mine is made by Braun, small and cream coloured… The “head” is metal and it spins to pull out the hair. It shouldn’t be to hard to find.

So no one has had laser hair removal? :frowning:

I was kinda hoping I could get it done here. My boyfriend just had laser eye surgery. He’s really happy with the results and it cost him a fraction of what he would have paid in Canada.

I thought I would be able to find an afordable clinic here. I’m dying to get it done, but don’t want to spend big bucks to do it.

Hey Kneezah: I find that on average Chinese men and women are less hairy than Caucasians. Perhaps that is the reason why it is difficult to find this hair removal service in Taiwan.

I had laser hair removal done in the States - about 2 years ago - using the latest and greatest laser machine, guaranteed to work (although no money back if didn’t!). Nope, didn’t work, hair grew back even denser than before. I don’t think it’s worth the pain, the time, or the money. Just my 2 cents.

on a place in Tunghua st, there was a place that offered laser hair removal. The price was about 20,000 nt for 4-5 treatments, and 200 nt afterwards.

I think laser hair treatments work best on people with dark hair on pale skin.

The treatments had to be about a month apart. But she said the hair wouldn’t come back.

We were asking about my boyfriend’s facial hair, so I suspect leg hair removal might be a bit more costly, as the surface area is much greater.

Apparently arm or leg hair removal costs about 20,000-30,000 nt.

This is a fairly common procedure in Taiwan, mostly because some women don’t want to shave their armpits. (While some Taiwanese women don’t seem to see the need to shave their armpits when wearing sleeveless shirts…)

So if you did 4-5 treatments all 4-6 weeks apart, the hair should not grow back, as your hair follicle would be completely destroyed.

However, I don’t know what you would do with blonde leg hair…

Dye it, then laser it?

Damn, I wanna get my hair done too. It really bothers me.

Are there any creams/ointments/oils(not hair removal creams) that make the hair regrow slower and/or weaker, and that work well ?
I trim my body hair with an electric hair cutter.
Keeps me cooler, cleaner, and more touch sensitive.
Thanks

You can use the epilator on any hair  . If it’s long, trim it back to about 1/4-1/2cm long.
If it’s thick and nasty then hold the skin as taut as poss to make it less painful.
Make sure you keep the machine dry (ie after cleaning it), they can get rusty here in TW.

thanks so much for the info. do you have any specifics like a street name or the name of the clinic? I would be forever greatful!
:notworthy:

i’m very pale with dark hair, so i think i would be an ideal candidate.
$30, 000 NT sounds like a bargin. Especially compare to the prices I was quoted in Canada.

thanks!!!

德國百靈完美體貼刀 it perfect for me =)

When it comes to beauty, women have incredible tolerance to pain.
I once had my legs waxed. For the inside of my legs, I nearly cried.
I cant imagine a bikini or upper lip wax.
But for the epilator, does it take very long, say for instance, to do 1 leg ?
Do you have to leave the machine in one spot for how long, or move it slowly like shaving ? Do you have to go over the same spot again and again to remove hairs missed ? Leave a rash or bumps ?
There are hair creams on the horizon that slow or retard hair growth.
Very promising.

It takes me about 15 minutes to epilate one leg; less if I do it regularly. I just move the machine slowly, usually more than once over each spot (in different directions because my hairs grow in different directions). Sometimes I have red spots on my legs, but they’re gone within an hour or so. I do have to make sure that I exfoliate my legs though, otherwise I get ingrown hairs.
