Late Night Buses in Taipei City

df

That depends on what you mean by “safe”.

The sign at the busstop should say what time the busses run. The MRT runs that late, so public transport is still working then. There aren’t any special “night” busses that I know of, they are as “safe” as any other time.

At each bus stop there is a route map for each bus line which contains the starting and ending times and how often they come. While the information is mostly in Chinese you should be able to figure out the times. The ‘ending time’ is really when the last bus starts on the route, so you may still be able to get a bus after the ending time. Most lines have ending times between 10:00-11:30p. After midnight you would need to take a taxi.

I’ve never felt unsafe on the bus after 10pm.

I’m not sure what you mean by “safe” (safe from crazy driving, perhaps?), but the buses here are every bit as safe in the daytime as they are at night.

i meant safe from muggers, etc.[/quote]

I’m not saying it’s never happened, but I’ve never heard of anyone being mugged in Taipei.

The 287 used to run all night, tried googling but can’t find. looks like 218 and 39 have night service. There must be a list somewhere…

It works like this:

Different bus routes have different schedule for their last bus . But for most major routes, you can just refer to what jlick said.

For MRT shuttle buses (bus routes start with a color word like R5 or BL10). Since they are designed for MRT transfers, the last bus often leaves the MRT station at 0:00 or later. (For example, the last Br9 bus leaves Zhongshan station at about 0:45) You can use the time information on bus stops as a reference.

Finally, there are “night buses” in Taipei. You can use the information here. (may be outdated) And they are a little more expensive than normal buses.

But anyway, always take the bus before 11PM until you are pretty sure that there will be another bus to come. Or take the taxi instead. (Waiting for a bus at midnight is NO FUN  )
