Laws on opening business in basement

You’re not supposed to talk to the police. The police don’t know the law.

Yeh, I see that now.

Yeh, if we don’t then there’s no point in opening the business.

We’ll probably just not bother.

Yeh, seems that way.

Restaurants offer some of the biggest risks and lowest reward in business. It’s extremely competitive, there’s food safety laws to consider, and you need giant investments, not to mention very good locations that means high rent.

Maybe think of some other business to open but restaurants often fail, something like 80% fail in 5 years. It’s also a huge amount of work too.

It’s best to call a lawyer. Not the police.

Hence selling alcohol.

We’ve spoken with several over the year. Nobody knows. They just say, here’s the laws. That’s it. They just pass us the information.

Wanna talk to mine?

Sure

Or just open in a location that meets the requirement, like say zhongshao e Rd sec. 3. But I suspect the rent for such a place will offset any gains you might have.

Here you go! This is my lawyer and he speaks English fluently.

Yeh, you answered your own reply.

The rent is eye-watering and so it’s not even worth considering.

I don’t see why people want to open businesses here… It’s crazy.

It makes sense to me why there’s a McDonald’s & 7 eleven on every conner.

Nobody else can afford to open a small business.

We saw a place for 50 pings in Ximen & they wanted over 150k / month…

2 months deposit, a month’s rent, and agent fee up front mean you’re spending a cool million in the first month before you even opened the doors.

For somewhere tiny. And that’s not even considering the decorations

Thanks

Yea ximen is expensive as hell. Just about any property that has any commercial value is going to be eye wateringly expensive. You’ll need like at least 10 million in capital before you’d consider opening any actual bar. And rate of return on any restaurants is so low that really only grifters would suggest opening one to anyone else.

And they rather rent it to a claw machine than lower the price. Or rent a residential property on the second floor and roll the dice.

Everywhere is eye wateringly expensive. Luzhou isn’t much cheaper…

The point is, don’t bother. That’s how I feel. My biz partner is infatuated with Taipei & is ready to sink millions into a biz here, however.

Yea, if it’s hospitality, then figure out how you’re going to set yourself apart from every other bars, clubs, restaurants, who likely have far more guanxi. Is your partner taiwanese?

I suggest manufacturing to be honest with you. Taiwan is great for that. Just know nobody comes to Taiwan for their great bars and pubs. If you’re going to do hospitality, I suggest more tourist friendly country like Thailand.

Maybe if you want to open restaurants, what about a decent Mexican restaurant that isn’t horrendously expensive? I think if you can do that, using local ingredients and figure out how to make substitutions that don’t taste too different, you might be onto something. You could offer Taiwan beer as well. There’s not many Mexican restaurants in Taiwan.

If your biz is successful expect at least a 50% increase in rent shortly after.

hmmm, I wonder why that is

Do you have any proof of this? Is it common for foreigners to have their businesses closed?
