LCC Airlines in Taiwan

Hi Folks,

We now have very cheap tickets from Taipei to go to Japan with Scoot, Tiger Airways, Peach (to come) even with Cathay (with their HK - TPE - Narita flight), good. Same thing for Philippines (with a bit less frequencies though) but what about Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia ? Going to Thailand from here is as expensive as going to the US…

Any plan in Taiwan to establish a budget airline ? I am sure we have around here people working for airlines and based in Taiwan. Your view please.

There was talk of China Air or Eva opening a low cost airline out of Taoyuan airport when a new terminal/runway opens. The reason why nothing has happened before is because those two airlines make a lot of money from the current high priced tickets. They will open one only after their lunch has been eaten by outsiders.

There are some flights available from $500-600USD from Taipei to Bangkok airport on Hong Kong Airlines. It would be nice if there was a dedicated budget airline so you could hop on a jet without worrying about being charged a ridiculous amount for a (relatively) short distance flight.

Ah. Sounds like that’s the case…

It is the price I paid recently with Cebu Pacific for a round-trip Taipei to Manila to Dumaguete for… four people…
