TomHill,
I don’t think you should start playing chess. Chess players are hot. In no time you’ll have dozens of groupies and it will be difficult to stay faithful to MrsHill, which you will later regret. Don’t do it!
So… you are saying I’m hot, and that chess will make me hotter?
I’m with MrsHill because she is rich.
To the mod, please leave the useful stuff when this gets temped, I really do want advice on how to play chess.
Are there any good online sites where one can play against a computer? Preferably with different levels of difficulty. I’m not interested in sites where one plays against a real person - the games get interrupted and unfinished, more often than not.
It’s not a computer playing site but I play on redhotpawn.com/ It’s an e-mail chess site. You make a move and the site sends an e-mail to your opponent that it’s his turn, then when he moves you get an e-mail that it’s your turn and so on until the game ends. Games can take awhile to play but I like it because it’s one way of staying in touch with some friends back home.
There are a lot of chess books on the p2p networks… a CD with 100 of them on bit torrent a few months back. Then get a chess program for your computer, one that gives you feedback on each position and recommended moves. Pick an opening system and memorize it 10 moves deep. Then study endgames. Good luck. What about Go though?
