I got some parking tickets and they are all overdue, my motorbike is quite old and I probably can’t re-sell it. So I decided I am going to just leave it parked at the parking lot of the building where I live now and not paying for the fines.
Can I just leave the country? Are they gonna stop me at the airport and don’t let me leave? Has anyone here leave with unpaid parking fines or know anyone who done this before? Please advice and THANK YOU!!

1.) You will not be able to register any motor vehicle or apply for a driving license until you have paid off your tickets.
2.) Not paying parking tickets will generally not lead to an exit ban. Once you have been publicly served and there is a court order, you may be banned from leaving Taiwan similar to those who default on tax payments.
3.) Your behaviour is very anti-social and the cause for government policies that unduly discriminate law-abiding foreign residents of Taiwan.
Personally if i knew i was never coming back, no matter which country i was in, id tell them to get stuffed. I pay for mine only because i intend to stay here and need it registered.

Thank you for your answers! I got parking tickets because of some stupid patking rules at my apartment and i didnt know i couldnt park at that spot that i parked. And the fine is quite high, higher than the re-sell price of my old motorbike.

I find it very questionable that you incite OP to break the law.[/quote]
Its not illegal to not pay. The fine is for the breaking of the law, which has already happened. All that happens is penalties will be applied, which wont matter since she is not here.
Plus i dont respect the way traffic enforcement is done here so frankly this is one area i dont give a stuff.
The OP had already decided s/he didn’t want to pay. Just wanted to hear someone claim it was OK. Abacus is totally correct – this is why all the discriminatory rules and laws against foreigners come into being.
A secondary issue on facts may be that these don’t sound like actual tickets from a municipal authority. If this is a matter of violations of parking regulations for an apartment complex, most likely they may simply be from the management of that building. Of course that only changes the legal status, not the ethical obligation of the OP to pay the fines if he was a resident of the building parking a vehicle there. If you racked up that many fines, you certainly had plenty of opportunity to figure out where you were and were not allowed to park. It’s just another BS excuse to try to avoid responsibility.
My mate’s got a parking fine that has gone past its payed (snigger) by date and the convenience stores and kiosk won’t accept his payment. Where does he pay it now?
I think exit bans only apply if you owe an excess of 1 million NTD. I think it was a rule they made a while back because the rules on exit bans were a little arbitrary…
But seriously, if you don’t want the scooter, de-register your vehicle (which means you’ll have to pay the outstanding fines). Then just sell it to a junk yard. You’ll get something for it, probably not a lot but something.
Don’t leave it around collecting dust and adding to the government’s problem of having to junk it for you.
If it’s just those parking tag things that they give everyone to pay for parking , this is just me guessing but usually the post office takes late payments. Along with those farmer association banks generally. Or agricultural bank. Otherwise if they say no he may need to take a trip to the DMV to pay it
I left a ticket in my glove compartment and discovered it months after the pay date. I paid it at the town hall of my village. Check with your local parking authority or meter maid. Whoops, sexist language. What do they call them nowadays? They’re mostly guys on scooters. They took out the parking meters some years ago. Are they, ticket Jockies? They need a catchy name.
