Legalized prostitution zones in Taiwan

According to @rowland and pals, you don’t actually need to cut anything off – feminism and gun control do it for you! :rainbow:

It’s not all about the whores. It’s about public health, to put it as delicately as possible.

Prostitution is a social disease.

That said, penicillin and condoms help a lot, except people tend to up their risky behavior when you lower the perceived risk, canceling out the benefit of lowering the risk.

I’d say, legalize prostitution, no STD checks, and let Darwin sort it out. But Darwin has a tendency to collateral damage, so maybe not.

The US will never ever allow it to happen in the first place. Just see what happened in Korea- all brothels torn down, even hidden ones closed and assets confiscated BEFORE guilty verdict, 10 million+ police cameras and wiretapping, and men who wanted to do this anyway in countries where it is legal or decriminalized are caught by intelligence agencies which have overseas citizen surveillance networks established during the past military dictatorship, now repurposed. for such purposes as they are not allowed to catch spies or communists anymore. Any attempts of legalization will be most likely answered with things like trade sanctions. Voluntary sales of sx does not exist in terms of overseas poliocy; it is always considered sexual slavery which is cause for imposing sanctions. With prostitution allowed, Koreans would never had gotten visa waiver.(Source: http://news.donga.com/List/3/03/20060319/8286479/1, "국정원 측은 "해외 성매매는 고소득과 자유로운 해외생활이 아니라 파멸로의 여행"이라며 "국가적으로도 한류 확산 및 미국과의 비자면제 협정 추진 등에 부정적 영향을 미치고 ") . It should be reminded that this happened despite the fact that Korea is internationally much mightier than Taiwan. Although the fact that Taiwan is not a christian theocracy like Korea might be a difference.

Could legalize and advertise like Germany and USA and others.

Apparently prostitution is increasing in Taiwan Wanhua.

It’s not increasing. It’s always been rampant. It’s just “diversifying”. :sunglasses:

Maybe local prostitutes complaining about foreign competition on home turf.

Are there actually more foreigners now, or are there just more foreigners as a percentage?

Not sure. I’ll have to do some research. :ponder:

Changhua, not Wanhua.

I know. I thought it is better suited to discuss it here. Since the location does not matter too much. And this thread has more discussion than the one you linked.

This is also more significant now since adultery is not a crime anymore. There was news that online dating/affair websites had big influx of Taiwanese users recently.

Haha business is maybe expanding.

Online prostitution is expanding partially because of the virus. Places are closed and the employees still want/need money.

Lately online has more targeted advertising and personal offers.

Wasn’t there legal prostitution about 15 years ago in Taipei???

Prostitution has always been legal. But Taipei and some districts are reluctant to issue a license to specific locations. So they issue a license to bar or KTV and then kind of let it continue.

Yes few years back one of the mayor’s in Taipei decided to stop issuing those particular licenses so places designated mostly closed or changed into regular bars.

So it’s been legal but different administrations have managed it differently.
