Those that are excused from fast and abstinence outside the age limits include the physically or mentally ill including individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also excluded are pregnant or nursing women.
Also last few weeks I’ve been unable to make confession because it seems the priest seems to not be in the usual spot before mass
Cross-posting here how the English community at one Catholic parish in Taipei tried to do something different for Lent this year
Been observing Lent so far this year… first Friday we forgot, ate burgers for dinner… oops… made up for it the next day. It’s kinda nice having some different foods on Fridays for dinner… veggie pizza, fish & chips, fish tacos, cajun garlic shrimp pasta, sushi…
As for the fasting stuff, I do intermittent fasting pretty much every day, usually 18 hours. The only meal I eat everyday is dinner, but then there’s a lot of late night snacking. I guess if I wanted to observe more of a fast, I should lay off the late night snacks.
Since Lent started, I have fasted every day, basically just breakfast (2 eggs, toasted bread, coffee) and then at least 8 hours or more later, dinner. Only drink liquids in-between. First week a bit different, but now it’s easy. Have given up ice cream, cookies, sodas, beer, too. Also been swimming 3000-4500m daily 4-5 times a week and just drinking water or sports drinks afterwards. Have lost much of my (small) beer gut. Overall, I may continue this type of fasting off/on during non-Lent times.
Beautiful.
