Whoever moved this from Living to here, thanks a lot. Now we will certainly get lots of people discussing it like I intended since everyone looks at Business & Money.

Unfortunately I’m in Taipei Wolf.

Did anyone see the gun battles between police and gansters in Kaohsiung on TV today? Owning a pub in Kaohsiung. mmmmmmm Beats being a dentist.

Yeah, I saw that this morning…really wild.

Just checked out some of the pictures at the Tavern’s website and I see some of my teachers there. Christ, what a bunch of boozers…but at least they were clothed.

Seems a bit too good to be true; although the gross looks a little low. Looks like a nice place though.

You need a Taiwanese partner,I think.Don’t think that’s for me.
How do you trust them.

Make sure they’re cast in the same mold as Jenny (my wife).

Bars/Pubs etc… aren’t as easy as they look to run and they can lose business overnight if someone else comes into town. Then you are forced to play a dfferent game. Your entire biz plan can change from a high end place to a cost competatve and vice versa.

I have a friend who lost big bucks in the 80’s in a hole in the wall. It makes me cry to think what the money would be worth if it was thown in even the most diverse capital market—Wilkshire or something…

They forgot the line-item expense for police/gang payoffs :noway: :noway:

Yeah, good point since I (for one anyway  ) just saw it.

That said, you left out something(s) rather important. One, what’s the cost of goods sold, or better, the avg. monthly gross margin %?

We get that, we can get to EBITDA. And since in Taiwan we may be able to dodge T while claiming I, D, & A, you know, it gets better maybe.

Two, does the ‘operating costs’ figure include kickbacks/protection money?

EDIT: Just saw your link, which indicates the bar has sold or, ‘who cares?’ Anyway, I wonder who bought it? I guess Kaohsiung-ites will know soon…

Normal pubs have “cost of goods sold” between 20% and 30%, depending on customers drinking coffee only, hard liquor, buy drinks for staff, food is served, and so on.
Anyway, has the place been sold ??
