Just supply and demand, I’m not pointing out nationalities. There has been a bump in number of people needing roofs over their heads, and the governments and markets haven’t been able to keep up with increased supply.
I’m not saying that Canada shouldn’t continue to welcome hundreds of thousands of people year after year, just that it has to managed carefully to avoid real problems that do fuel xenophobia.
Taiwans housing market is surely fucked. but is anyone denying that president Ma selling out Taiwan to China wasnt the single most problematic point of taiwans real estate inflation? It is quite obvious those foreigners from China, with the help of local governments treason and corruption, fucked taiwan completely. There is probably no other single point that has caused so much inflation and.speculation here on land and buildings.
I am doubting refugees are the cause compared to Chinese, and related, investments. It is fairly lop sided to be fair. Also to be fair, we can talk india and broad range asia that are scared if corruption. But probably not really dirt poor immigrants renting rooms. virtually all my family housed syrians. there were some government handouts for such. but many went on to rent low end housing. if anything, I am more worried about them becoming.canadian and have drug addicted kids cause they live in shit holes and their kids are at home while the parents work. unlike the chinese real estate that is speculative and inflammatory and no one lives in a shit hole.
I was saying numbers of newcomers (including wealthy immigrants, as well as poor refugees) are a factor. And I have clarified that I dont see it as the only one.
Ya, I get and basically agree with your point. but for the interwebs, it seems there is still mass confusion on the difference between wealthy immigrants going somewhere to carry on speculative investing compared to immigrants of desperation, even humanitarian efforts.
True, but it’s hard not look at photos on CV’s and make some judgements. I see some with sexy photos so I think also people try to use it to their advantage. (Which to me is un professional)
Ireland just cancelled the golden visa, main reason was almost all the applicants were Chinese.
However the accommodation crisis in many Western countries is multifaceted, too strict planning laws, large scale legal immigration along with large scale refugee movement and illegal migration.
Same in England, as is now common knowledge. You don’t even have to be Ukrainian. Just turn up with no passport and pretend you can’t speak English, and bob’s yer uncle. I was seriously considering giving it a try myself.
So yeah. I’m pretty sure Taiwan isn’t going to be first on the list of desired destinations. However I did see a video somewhere about a Ukrainian refugee who was shocked by the fact that Britain is a shithole, and another one who thought there were too many immigrants. The first one buggered off back to Ukraine, apparently.
They don’t need to pretend that they are Ukranian , pretending they lived in Ukraine before is good enough. Needs to be verified, won’t get away so easily now. Most asylum seekers will be living on 40 quid a week room and board in shitty conditions (single men in particular ) but they hold out on the promise of illegal work, legal work in the future.
I’m sure many Ukranians land up in some shitty grey suburbs or run down towns and go what the fuck what happened to this place look at all the greasy food and betting shops , many cities in Ukraine are beautiful apparently and the middle class had a fairly high standard of living even on lower incomes. They also eat better and look after themselves more.
Just for the amusement value. I’m curious how much of the propaganda (on both sides) is real and how much is BS. Apparently you get an all-expenses-paid vacation and a new identity/passport, which might come in useful when they flip the switch for Brave New World.
To summarize: The grass is always greener on the other side.
Everywhere is a shit hole. Everywhere is paradise. Depends how experienced and honest one is, most people are neither Taiwan is both too. Everywhere is both. Government law, on the other hand, isnt as subjective.
I met some talented ones in Europe, Taiwan needs offer more to attract them along with change of local company’s thinking. (ie, such as they will not work long hours so is lazy which is not euro model, which I think is be productive within legal work hours)
Ridiculous when most Ukrainian men are expected to fight to their death.
There are even claims male Ukrainians in Poland will be called up.
It has been illegal for Ukrainian males under 65 to leave the country since last year.
Who do the Taiwanese think they would attract?
Now, as there are females in the military, who else would there be?
Taiwan just wanting the ‘talented ones’ means they will get next to nobody moving here. The ‘talented ones’ can move wherever they want and bring their families with them if they need to.
