LINE messaging software (APP)

A few months ago, I installed the LINE messaging APP on my cellphone. I recently discovered that there is a version for the Windows PC as well, and it can be downloaded from line.en.softonic.com/

The LINE messaging software sends messages via the internet, hence there is no separate NT$ charge for any and all messages sent (unlike when you send a message via telephone connections . . . . . ) So the use of LINE is economical.

By installing the LINE software on a computer in the office where I work, my intention was that when the other one or two staff members are using that computer, and I am running around Taipei, or further down island, we could communicate (i.e. send messages) via LINE.

However, after installing the software, it appears (initially anyway) that this is not possible. The installation requires that you enter the cellphone number of your cellphone, and then an assigned connection between the account on this Windows PC and the account on your cellphone is made. It appears that the same email ID, LINE ID, and assigned cellphone number is used for both.

In the “Friends” listing, I myself am not listed, hence it appears that I cannot send a message to myself, and indeed when I tried to add myself to the “Friends” listing I was given an error message saying that such an action is not allowed.

I am wondering if anyone knows a “shortcut” or “workaround” to solve this problem? Or is there some other messaging program that can be installed on the office computer and then enable someone in the office to communicate with me (economically, via internet) or communicate with other people (via cellphone messaging) who are outside the office?

Note: Obviously, I could use someone else’s cellphone number as the one “installed” on the office PC . . . . . Let’s use a fictional “Mary Knickerbocker” . . . . however, the same problem then develops, since it would then be impossible to communicate with Ms. Knickerbocker when using LINE on the office computer.

You could just use google talk or facebook for messaging.

News reports that >21M people use Line in Taiwan out of population of ~25M.

Average user over 1 hour per day.

On trains and buses in Taiwan you don’t hear the phone ring tone - you just seem to hear the LINE tone.

I’m kind of sick of that sound because whenever I hear it I know there is a high possibility of a bad connection with some people that call me.

I frequently hang up and call back with a regular phone call.

Interesting!

Bought a new phone, installed Line, and now my chats are letter sealed on my desktop. The function cannot be turned off anymore. WTF!?!

Has anyone run into this problem and can give me a solution other than "meet with my chat friends in person and verify their footprints…?

Line accounts can be stolen exploiting voicemail.
Dial :hash::hash::zero::zero::two::hash: to disable voicemail on CHT. Or change your voicemail password from default.
