A man charged with breaking into LL Cool J’s home Wednesday morning faces a long prison sentence if convicted because of his previous convictions, the prosecutor’s spokeswoman said Thursday.

Jonathan Kirby, 56, suffered a broken nose, jaw and ribs when he encountered the muscular rapper-actor inside his Sherman Oaks, California, home, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Prosecutors charged Kirby with first degree burglary as a “third striker,” which means he could face 38 years to life in prison if convicted, Gibbons said. They are asking that bail for Kirby be set at $1.1 million. . .

Arraignment for the suspect is not yet set, because he is still hospitalized for treatment of injuries inflicted by LL Cool J when he “physically detained” him, she said.

The family was sleeping when their home security alarm sounded at 1 a.m., sending LL Cool J into action, according to a Los Angeles Police statement.

After catching the man, he held him until police arrived, police said[/quote]

You would have to be super stupid to break into Cool J’s house (or really unlucky).

I blame LL Cool J’s Mama. She told him to knock that guy out.

That’s one of the things I love about the U.S. of A. In Spain, the burglar would have sued LL Cool J for the wounds he suffered, and he would have won, because under no circumstance you can hit another person (unless you are a cop, of course).

Reminds me of Duncan “Disorderly” Ferguson, legendary Scottish footballing headcase.

He twice “apprehended” someone in the process of robbing his house, both times putting them in hospital for days after the incidents. The man also rather ridiculously did time himself for head butting an opposition player.

I enjoyed this news story quite a bit. I too love that about the USA. If someone breaks into your house, mess 'em up! Quite deserved.

And if anyone walks around your apartment with an ice tea in thier pocket, and you can follow them, instigate a fight and shoot them too.
