I am contemplating a job in Taipei but need to find a way to bring my Thai girlfriend to live with me. She was able to come with me for the interview, but I don’t see a good legal way to get her into the country for a long say (for years).
Anone have any good ideas?
Thank you in advance.

Put a ring on her finger.
and one through your nose.
Although the above replies are rather poor attempts to be “humorous”, they actually provide a very good direction for you to think about solving this problem.
In other words, since Taiwan has no sort of fiancee visa, or other consideration under the immigration statutes for “girlfriend”, of course the Taiwan government will not recognize any relationship between you and your “lady friend.”
An additional option is for your Thai girlfriend to get a “tourist visa” to come to Taiwan to be with you, however since large numbers of Thais on tourist visas are suspected to work illegally in Taiwan, so of course this may not be the easiest path to pursue.
In my own impression, which may not be accurate, the immigration statutes in Thailand are a bit more liberal than those in Taiwan . . . . . . . HENCE, what seems reasonable from a Thai standpoint may still be impossible under Taiwan law . . . . . . please don’t take offense.
No humour intended in my post Quest. She’ll find it very difficult to get a long-term visa otherwise.
No offence taken, and the humor is appreciated. Thank you both for the input.
I am not free to marry her.
Any chance of getting her in as a housekeeper or something similar? I don’t mind paying taxes and/or agency fees. It would make the difference between being able to accept the job and not being able to.

It might make a big difference if you went with her to the visa office, so they get the idea you are a couple and you are taking care of her financially. A lot of gay couples I know do this. Obviously they can’t get married, but they do list they are staying at their partners residence, are being taken care of by their partner, etc. Otherwise, these executives wouldn’t be allowed to bring their boyfriends to live with them here.
I agree with Flicka… It might also help if you can show that you are in a defacto relationship (e.g. registered at the same address or have a shared bank account)…
After 3 1/2 years of trying to keep from forming a document trail, I am in a position of trying to document our relationship. Ironic.
Would the domestic worker approach work, I wonder?
