Looking for a job around Taipei

Did they just walk into the cram school and ask for job or had to use some friends as contacts?

Organisations that require TEFL certification won’t be offering someone without a degree work. However, off the top of my head Shane and The British Council require it.

I know a student who went to work for a big chain, hasn’t finished his degree yet. They required a training program that they delivered (no pay, but free). I think he makes minimum wage, Taiwanese guy.

For run of the mill cram schools, I suspect they see it as a bonus but not very important. Some of thosr certificates aren’t very useful

What about the level of Mandarin?
Mine is not very high, but I guess I’d be much more motivated to improve it when working with people.

Mandarin generally isn’t required.

Just one more thing…

In cram schools, teaching English…
What both the teacher and the students are supposed to do?
How is it usually structured?
What are the skills students are supposed to learn there?

My understanding based on the results I see is there is a lot of grammar and vocabulary training for closed-end test questions. Teacher talks and students listen. Very test oriented and teacher centered.
