Does anyone know where I might be able to find a model shop in Taipei? To be more specific I am looking for a store where I can purchase one of those model kits where you assemble the airplane made out of balsa wood.

There is a shop along Keelong Road that sells RC planes, helicopters and cars etc., located roughly between Heping and Zhongxiao on the West side.
If that’s the store I’m thinking of, “Yu’s Hobby Shop??”, near the school(?), then I think it’s either moved or gone out of business. There’s a reasonably good store in Hsintian if that’s any use. Let me know and I’ll dig out the address and directions, boss speaks little or no English if that makes any difference to you.
there’s a cluster of model shops in the wannian department store in shimending, 3rd floor. corner of xining s rd and emei street.
i believe i saw a shop with the balsa wood models you describe in the taipei city mall underground behind the train station. it was quite small, and on the south side of it. don’t remember exactly where but if you walk away from the train station on the south side of the mall it would be on your left. probably around where all the video game stores are, or before that.
There is one on He Ping in between Chong Ching South rd. and Roosevelt on the south side I think.

There’s also one on Ming Shen east road, crossing Kuang Fu going East.
I’ve seen a couple of places -one in the World Trade Center, and another in the Taipei Underground mall.
However, if anyone knows of other nice stores to check out for plane models, I would be most grateful for directions.
Furthermore, if anyone knows where to find the models made out of balsa wood -seems the factory is in Taoyuan- I will also be very appreciative for your assistance.
You mean those little plastic models? There is a shop on Fuxing South Road, on the stretch between Xinhai and Heping (East side of Fuxing S.).
And there are a couple of model shops in a small shopping complex at the corner of Xining and Emei Street at Ximending. 4th or 5th floor I think.
There’s a pretty biggish one right by Kunyang MRT station (come out exit 1 and look on your right as you head along Zhongxiao E Rd (It’s actually on a smaller road parallel to it maybe 10 or 20 metres along the road)).
EDIT: It’s kinda blocked from view, so I recommend you head along that parallel road (if you can even call it a road) immediately.
Oh wait, are you talking about small plastic models, or radio controlled things? I was telling you about a radio-controlled plane shop.
best place is probably wannien department store in ximending, as rascal says. think it may be third floor, or fourth.
there used to be a place near west corner of zhongxiao and jianguo, wings of china. not sure if still there though.
At first glance I thought he was looking for plain models. You know, those foreigners that pose for the Sogo catalog that work for NT$350/hour.
