Looking for a place for a family outing in Chaiyi

Looking for a family-friendly place in Chaiyi. Somewhere appropriate for an outing with a couple of very young kids and their grandfather. Any suggestions?

How far from Chiayi City are you willing to go?

I’d suggest Qingliao Village near Houbi. Houbi is about 15 minutes out of Chiayi on the train and its another NT$150 to get a taxi to Qingliao. Qingliao is where the documentary Wumile was filmed a few years back. Very picturesque. Lots of old buildings, some restored, some not.

Not too far off the beaten track/ bus route.

So you need public transport?

How about Guanziling? The hot springs are fun (lots of various pools and they are muddy in color too) and there’s Red Leaf Park to run around and get some great views. Can catch a bus directly from Chiayi.

Qingliao is pretty solidly on the beaten track. What could be easier? 15 minutes on the train and then five minutes by cab. A cab from Jiayi itself would probably be NT$300 or less.

Trying to stick to the bus routes. We’re meeting some people who aren’t all that mobile. It’s easy enough for us to get around, not so much for them.

Hot springs would be nice for me, probably not the babes or in-laws.
