Looking for advent calendars

Taxis are a thing for those kind of emergency situations

Guandu Costco today did have a beer one. I didn’t bother: too much of a hassle to carry home.

I didn’t see a wine one and, more importantly, no whisky one. Maybe those just don’t exist here.

I’d be surprised if there isn’t a whisky one. If not, then it’s a business opportunity IMO. I reckon the Taiwanese would love that.

Yeah, I also feel like it’s something that ā€œshouldā€ be here, even if Christmas isn’t that big a deal.

There are a lot of liquor stores around, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them stocked something like the Master of Malt I linked to above. But I don’t really want to search a dozen shops, and I was hoping someone here would have seen one.

But unlike wine or beer, we don’t usually just crack open a bottle of whisky and finish it.
Unless, of course, the idea is making a whisky advent calendar with tiny bottles. :gift::christmas_tree::santa:

Well, yes, that is the idea. Basically hotel mini-bar or airplane sizes.

Price per liter almost justified guaranteed to be bad, but a fun variety.

This was in Zhonghe today. It looked to be the last one though.

I think that’s the same as the beer one that I saw. After seeing it, I’ve definitely decided I’m far more interested in whisky ones.

I just checked the Master of Malt site linked above, and shipping charges aren’t as bad as I expected - for a Ā£83 Whisky Advent 2024, delivery charges of an additional Ā£18.71, arrival on or before Dec. 18. With a big note about possible customs duties. Until now I’d assumed shipping would be ridiculous. (How can this box of booze ship for Ā£19, while the Discworld puzzles I’d like ship for Ā£28?!)

Huh. I’m glad I didn’t already have a drink in me right now, when checking that. I’d probably have ordered it.

I dunno, something about the ā€œfancyā€ box with the little drawers or windows or whatever: there’s a nostalgic element that I like, and the beer & wine options don’t provide that.

Of course as of Boxing Day it’s just more dumb packaging to break down and recycle. Or more likely incinerate.

You’d have a lot of catching up to do on the day it arrives!

ā€œSorry students! I had a busy flight I mean night catching … hic … up on all the different end-of-semester casks oops tasks! Um, you can take care of yourselves today, right? I’m sure you’ve got some drinking no writing to do?ā€

I know it’s a bit late, but has anyone seen any of the chocolate advent calendars for sale anywhere this year? Due to mobility issues we haven’t been to our usual haunts recently and are hoping to avoid too much walking around looking for them. Last year I picked up a couple in Mia C’bon, but I just discovered the Tianmu Mia C’bon permanently closed down two days ago. Other branches will be the first place we call in the morning, but any leads would be much appreciated! We’ve found found one online, but they would take five days to arrive and the sooner my students can start opening the doors the better.

Skimming down my brain mashed advent and calendars into

Cadavers

Wtf brain
