We are visiting Taiwan around the end of February/beginning of March in 2015 and are hoping to get some riding in. In previous trips, we have done the east coast ride from Hualien to Ruisui and the west coast from Kaoshiung City to the town of Yongjing. For this trip, I am looking for recommendations for three to four days of riding. We prefer rides around Taipei and Taichung/Changhua area as these are the two places we will be staying. However we are open regarding the locations of the ride (northern, central, southern, or eastern Taiwan, or Taipei, Taichung, Kaoshiung, or Tainan). Scenic routes (or routes to scenic areas) with some climbing would be most desirable. However one or two scenic rides plus another one or two rides with some climbing would be great as well.
Also, does anyone have recommendations regarding a website for downloading cycling routes for Garmin? We have gotten lost on one of the previous trips, and I did not think I was going to make it back….do not want that experience again.
Any information anyone could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
There’s a threads full of routes and some blogs that people have done over the years here in this sub-forum.
I would suggest doing the KOM route. (I’m not sure of the exact route, but if you look up 2014 KOM on youtube or google, it’s bound to pop up) It’s not an easy route, but it’s considered one of the most scenic bike routes in the world.
end of february is not ideal for KOM, maybe end of April or May.
try the south coast, Taitong through the rift valley to kenting around the southern tip, and then put your bikes on a bus back to Taipei from Kenting or nearby.

Completely overlooked your time frame. Listen to urodacus, do not do KOM route during that time.
Late February or early March your route should stay to the southern parts of Taiwan since TaiZhong and up, weather will not be ideal for cycling.

Actually not necessarily. Let 's not forget last CNY we had 5 consecutive days of spanking weather up here. And this winter is likely to be a dry(er) one.
