Most of the food in Taiwan is quite sweet. I’m looking for some heavy meat, spicy, “mandarin food”. Anyone got any good spots in Xinyi or anywhere else?
While not in Xinyi proper, there are many excellent options that would fit the bill in the small lanes and alleys near Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall MRT Station, especially off Yanji Street.
Out of many possibilities, I can recommend Qin Wei Guan (秦味館). Their dry “belt noodles” are in a class of their own. Great vibe too.
And if Sichuan beckons, you could consider this modest eatery: Tianfu (天府麵庄), in the same neighbourhood, with a woman from Sichuan cooking. It’s not a proper restaurant, or a place for special occasions, but it is a nice daily choice, again excelling at their take on dry noodles, which have been known to make me dance with delight.
This is exactly what I’m going for. I would have never found this otherwise. Thank you.
Just remember: belt noodles.
Love these guys!
