Her email read (translated): “Tash, have you read this article about life in Taiwan? It sounds so depressing. I’m worried about [name of our Taiwanese friend] and other girls [Taiwanese women we know]. Is it really that bad?”
I told her I though the article was a bit exaggerated and not to worry.
But now that I think about the happiness and loneliness in my Taiwanese friends… most of them are very unhappy about their relationships. Some just ingore it and focus on work and restaurant-hopping, others look for foreigner boyfriends, thinking they’ll make them happy.
However, I couldn’t say if that’s any different from women in any other country.
I don’t think anyone talks about loneliness, though. It’s like a taboo or maybe just not part of the culture.[/quote]
well what happens is that when you are in a very competitive culture you are afraid to appear weak. To discuss loneliness is to admit weakness and would make most people shun you. But then your true friends wouldnt! good time to tell who is really your bud i would say

Tash, I think that generally women are just unhappy, Taiwan or elsewhere. They want it all! Career, family, material wealth.
Instead, they have to deal with men, the expectation that their bodies will never age or put on weight, pressure balancing career vs settling down to have a family, trying to decide between the guy that they want and the one they should probably stick with… and when they do get a guy they try to change him into the ideal guy.
For us men, life is way easier. It consists of beer, computer games, sport and women who accept that they rank a distant number 4.

I’m sure not all men are that shallow, Tyc00n. I know a few who would put sex somewhere on top of that list, but maybe your priorities are different. And that’s ok.

Other than the fact that my post was a bit of tongue and cheek, which I’m sure you picked up, sex for the sake of sex can be just as shallow as any of the above. Surely you meant love…

Thank you, but no need for you to interpret for me. I know what I meant.

Then explain to me how sex with a whore is less shallow than playing computer games with your friends (oh, and for the record, nothing ranks higher for me than sex with a woman I love…thats not just sex though is it…its makin luuurve)
