Lyrics Quiz

These should be easy, once you figure out the theme. Name these songs and tell me what they all have in common. None of these songs are obscure - in fact, the contrary; I guarantee nearly everyone here has heard most of, if not all of them. And no, “10 Songs I Wish I’d Never Hear Again” is not the correct answer!

  1. You called out to your country, and you whispered to those in pain.

  2. If I should stay I would only be in your way.

  3. Que tu cuerpo es pa’ darle alegria y cosa buena

  4. Wave your hands in the air
    Shake the deriere
These three words mean you’re gettin’ busy

  5. Well don’t you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

  6. When they said you was high classed,
Well, that was just a lie.

  7. How do I, get through one night without you?

  8. Look into my eyes - you will see
    What you mean to me

  9. As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realise there’s none left

  10. Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I laced the track, you locked the flow
So far from hangin on the block for dough

They are all lyrics from songs that appeared on the sountrack of high-grossing movies, I think.
2 is from “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston on The Bodyguard, 5 is “Desperado” by the Eagles (movie?), 6 is “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley from Forrest Gump, 7 is “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion from Titanic (I think), 8 is “Everything I Do (I Do It for You)” by Bryan Adams from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, 9 is “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio from Dangerous Minds. The rest I don’t know. Am I close, ML?

Can I try one?

Can you match numbers 1-5 with letters a-e and find the link that connects them all? (Bonus: name all of the artists, songs, and albums…no Googling)

Sorry, ImaniOU, you got some of the songs right, but didn’t get the connection. Those are lyrics from the Top 10 selling singles of all-time in the U.S. as certified by the RIAA. You’ve all heard those songs a jillion times more than you’d want to, but answers in white font if you didn’t pay any attention to the verses:

  2. I Will Always Love You

  3. Macarena

  4. Whoomp! (There It Is)

  8. Everything I Do (I Do It For You)

  9. Gangsta’s Paradise

  10. I’ll Be Missing You (Puff Diddy’s slaughter of the old Police song)
