Mac heads pleeze help

Hi,

I’ve been experiencing problems with Safari and Forumosa recently. Whenever I look at a certain thread:

this one safari quits. It has happened on another page too. I’m using Nestscape to surf right now and all is okay.

I looked over at www.apple.com and found this but I can’t download it; it also seems to be very, very old.

I have also had problems over at the Ho! so I wanted to dump Safari and reinstall, what is the best way to do this?

Thanks L.

What a useless thread, no wonder Safari is giving up on this one.

Can you help?

Tiger eh Limey? Safari 2.01?

There are recent reports of some people having Safari issues. About 2 days ago, I had a lot of crashing though I also have tons of Safari plugins. I think I made sure I updated them all, deleted my Safari cache, history, and downloads file. It’s all good now.

For specific things, you might try macfixit. It’s subscription only but it is the best place on the web to find fix it solutions.

You could try deleting these

~/Library/Cache/Safari
~/Library/Safari/Icons
~/Library/Safari/Downloads.plist
~/Library/Safari/History.plist

There are also cache cleaning utils and Safari utils. I think the Safari utils mostly change hidden settings; perhaps some do more.

Feel free to IM me if you want more help.

Cheers G. Yes to all the above, cleared the cashe and history file. Still no go.

Can I just reinstall safari from the original software disc?

(Before I delete anything are you sure it is safe to?..Limeypooshispantsnotwantingtofuckupexpensiveequipment8O)

I had no idea all those would still be there, even after a reset!

Cheers L.

You can delete all those files without problems. You’d just be delete cache and history files. Quit Safari before you do them.

If you wanted to, you could reinstall Safari 2.0 from the Tiger DVD. Pacifist allows you to install specific files and folders. The program is kinda techie. You could do this or just reinstall the Combo Tiger 10.4.2 update.

There’s lots of caches you can delete, repairing permissions, and stuff. But I don’t think it’s necessary for strictly Safari problems.

Just had a look at the problem page. Looking good after following your instructions. I’ll keep an eye on it for the next few days and see how it goes!

Cheers.

aw me. :loco:

Have you checked out pimpmysafari L? Nice Safari plugins. I’m using Saft, LiveDictionary, fiwt, and SafariStand

Saft - shortcuts, type ahead like Firefox, full screen mode, ad blocker, and more
LiveDictionary - mouse over words on webpages and get definitions or translations even
fiwt - I prefer the type ahead with this over Safari
SafariStand - tons of stuff.

pimpmysafari has all the details.

You can always try firefox or even opera, they just released it as free yesterday.

For Mac? Where? I use Netscape once in a while - for the things you can’t do in safari, my bank has even caugth up now and offer Safari broswing, looks like poo though.

All good at the mo…but not been surfing long…

Gary - I’m not gonna mess around right now, when I know I’m out of the brown stuff then I’ll have a play.

YouareaGodwithhugetesticles! :notworthy: Thanks.

Camino is nice too. The same engine as Firefox wrapped around a nice OS X interface.

To sync bookmarks among browsers, BookIt.

I’ve just done a scan from here

security.symantec.com/sscv6/home … LGI&bhcp=1

and found out I have two ports open.

ICM Ping…which doesn’t apppear to be a problem and Port 80 which could be. Do I need to turn 80 off do you think? How?

Limeydoesn’tknowwhatthefuckhe’sdoingandgreatfulofallthelove:)

BTW nice avatar Andre!

L.

Ping is cool. Doesn’t tell anyone anything except your (wireless?) router is on.

Port 80? You’re using a router or plugging into your DSL modem?

Router - it’d be the web config for it. Not good to be configurable by anyone on the net. They could keep guessing passwords til they get it.

DSL modem - got a web site running on your computer? Turn off Personal Web Sharing.

PM for you G.
