A friend of swears these cannot be used overseas anymore if the account has been opened in Taiwan by a foreigner. Is this true? Last time I went back to Aus, I freely used my Taiwan debit card without hassle. Has anyone been overseas recently and used theirs?
Yes, in HK in late may, no problems.
Worked in NZ in March.
Elsewhere on the forums it has been suggested that when you open an account some banks may not give you foreign usage rights, unless you ask for it (don’t know whether or not this has to do with being a foreigner). When I opened an account with Huaban in Feb, they asked me whether I wanted to use ATMs overseas, and I said yes. So make sure you ask them, if they don’t ask you.
