Mail from the Communists

OK, so here’s the story. I’ve recently gotten into shortwave radio, and one of the bestest ever stations we in Taiwan have the privilege of being able to get loud and clear is Voice of Korea, the North Korea propaganda machine. Oh God is it quality entertainment. Anyway, what I want to do now is send them a reception report and see if I can get any awesomely cheesy freebies out of them, as SW stations are wont to do. My only concerns are these: a) is mailing anything to North Korea likely to work and/or get my name on a blacklist of some sort, and b) is receiving mail from North Korea likely to get me unwanted attention as mentioned in a)? TIA for any help.

What kind of freebies would you be expecting from North Korea, given that millions of 'em are starving to death, by all accounts other than Korean ones?

If you want something free, just tell them how much you and all your friends are impressed by “Dear Leader”, and that it sets your heart aglow to know that at least one nation in the world is being governed justly by a moral, compassionate, upright man. That might work.

Send them a picture of a “I’m so ronery” tattoo of the chia pet on yer backside.

Actually SW radio stations often send out schedules, postcards, pennants, that kind of thing as a promotional effort in response to verified reception reports. Hell, VOK in particular have even been known to send out newspapers (albeit in Korean). It’s more just the souvenir QSL I want. Yeah, it’s a bit nerdy, but I clearly am already a giant nerd for doing this in the first place.

So no-one’s got any actual idea of the postal situation?

Here’s an thread on official North Korean forums about Voice of Korea: korea-dpr.com/cgi-bin/simple … 1069056489 Maybe someone there can help ?
The rest of the forums are bit of a hoot too.

hahahaha make sure you post updates about your radio-wave advanture.

Thanks, but unfortunately to post on those boards you need to join the Korean Friendship Association or whatever their wacky group of nutjobs calls themselves, and I really don’t want to jump through those particular hoops for nutty Communist trinkets. I’ve found a (low-traffic) Taiwanese forum about shortwave and ham radio and posted there, so I’ll see if anything comes of that.
