If someone says they live near “Main Station” a bit outside of Taipei on the MRT, what does that mean?

I would guess Jiangzicui station. It’s 3 stops away from Taipei Main Station but just outside of Taipei city.
There is only one station people refer as Main Station, which is Taipei Main Station, which combines the MRT, HSR and TRA -metro and rail services. It is smack in the middle/left of any map of Taipei, if you mean it is not in the center/downtown of the city.
Maybe they refer to the big bus station at Taipei City Hall? It’s got alot of line,s but it is still not the “main” one.
Could they mean “terminal station” maybe? For instance, I live close to Xindian terminal station… ish.
Maybe it is Sanchong. That is close to Taipei Main Station but not in Taipei city. They are being vague. Cut them off.
It could mean they live near the main station in their area, but they don’t think you’ll understand where their area is, so they want you to know they have access to the main station and are maybe high enough on some type of local social ladder to live near the station vice living far away from the station so they don’t have to take bus to station… and thus can meet up with you easier because they are close to main station.
I have been here too long to know such local oddities as that…
Jiangzicui? Unlikely. More likely would be Banqiao station. Its a big station with MRT, HSR and TRA, Inter and Intra-city buses etc. Or possibly Nangang?
It means they’re confused, since anywhere that can appreciably be called “near the Main Station” is inside the city of Taipei.
Ask for clarification.
My theory is that this person is originally from Taishan, where the word for noodle is meing, and that he or she has confused station with stand. Thus, this person was attempting to communicate to you that he or she lives near a noodle stand–a situation of which, I suppose, many of us can boast.
I think you should find out precisely where this noodle stand is, sample its fare, and come back here and give us a full report on it (without writing anything disparaging, of course–wouldn’t want you to be haled before a judge).
If it is in description of an apartment you are looking at it probably means that the apartment is anywhere from New Taipei City to Tauyuan, “easily” reached by just switching to one or two buses after you get off the MRT…
It was for a nanny situation. But anyway, they wanted a housekeeper (which I am not).

Lilli, this was an illegal position. For Taiwanese require a special permit to hire foreign caregivers, and their work permits are handled differently. Neither housekeeping nor nanny is legal.
And no, we do not have au pair system in Taiwan, at least I haven’t heard of something along those lines.
