Making a franchise

Does anyone here have experience in creating a franchise from an original business concept?

I’m hoping you can recommend resources: web links, courses, journals

A good friend of mine has a restaurant concept that looks very promising. It’s been open about 6 months and is breaking even. She is not interested in expanding the idea to other cities, although some of our friends believe that her combination of recipes and concept should be a winner

She is willing to “franchise” it - as in, other people (preferably those she doesn’t know) put up their own money, and just pay her a percentage (fee) to use her ideas, recipes, and design

This thread could be useful to those who have, say, their own language school or language system, and want to “get big” fast

Page 1 book store at the Taipei 101 has some franchising books to look at.
I would think you need to stay in business for at least a year to see if it is viable for a year and need to open another one in a different location to see if the “franchise procedures” would work and be profitable. Franchisees would like to see how much profit could be expected otherwise there is no point to buy into the franchise.
