My fingerprint reader has stopped working. They might try to claim it isn’t essential or something.

I’d say a fingerprint reader is an essential item. Take it in and tell them you want a warranty repair.
Before you do that, you can try to remove the fingerprint setup and then try to set it up again fresh.
What makes you think that?
