Mandarin course to obtain student ARC

I’m doing this post for a friend in UK was in same business as me but Covid-19 has ended it.
Not visited Taiwan before but has decided he’s going to come here and be a English teacher, He did a post before as @dude was removed as I opened account for him.
OK as far as I now he has no BA Degree and now doing a TEFL Course, whatever not main question.

He reckons he can get a student ARC doing a Mandarin course in Taipei, as far as I know he can only get a student Visa.
so we at loggerheads on this can/can’t if so how? I can find no way he can.

No degree means he can’t get a work permit. The TEFL means nothing. If he studies at a university he can get a student visa and eventually an ARC but if I remember correctly he can’t work legally the first year and after that the school can choose to allow him to work and he is limited to 16 hours a week. But again if he doesn’t have a degree, he still can’t teach at a cram school.

If I recall you can get a student work permit after studying Chinese for one year at a university language school. That would enable him to work at a cram school. In addition, student work permits are 20 hours per week now, not 16.

Thanks for the info, I could only find Student Visa.
I know he’s not going to do Mandarin at university, school is what he’s looking at.
I and others have told him he can’t teach without a Degree.

I now wish I had gone to Mandarin School, I thought I would pick it up in 6 months, 10 months later my Mandarin is still appalling
