Mandarin tutor needed: from mid-July through late August

If anyone could help me out with getting a private tutor in Taipei between mid-July and late August it would be of help. Also if anyone has any tutors they recommend personally that would be excellent too. (I will only have one year of experience of Mandarin upon arrival, I would prefer a simplified character focus but trad. is good too)

Thank you

You’ve mentioned "I would prefer a simplified character ", so it means you’re going to learn how to read and write? And then go to China?

I’m a student in the U.S. and my long term goal is to learn Mandarin so I can at some point do Anthropological field work in China. Therefore simplified and pinyin are the focus of what I need to know. Thank you

Contact me.

My way of learning to read and write Chinese is the best , I think

I have read your post in Forumosa again.

As you focus on sim Chinese and pinyin, I have the following suggestions.
1, for Pinyin, it is the aide that you must have to learn to listen to and speak Chinese.
I think you may study in this way: read the chinese textbook with pinyin then listen to the tape repeatedly. Gradually, you know how pinyin works

2, for simplified Chinese, I am in mainland China which is the simplified Chinese mostly used. As you do anthropoligical field work in China, I think you need two field of knowledge. One, oral skills, able to converse. Two, knowledge of Chinese histroy is a must. As a matter of fact, I have just seen a set of book in China that have beautiful pictures about all thea ancient arts of China. You can read it and see it. And it is the latest.

Martin

And I can be your private tutor

I know someone who teaches just for fun. Her Mandarin is excellent, and her English very good too, and she is a very nice person. She is also on the MRT line, near downtown. She’s swamped right now, but she’ll be free Jun 22 onward to pick up 1 or 2 students. She doesn’t know simplified. However, she’d be quite able to teach you how to get around, buy food, find lodging, use buses and taxis, and you could even run through mock excavation scenearios to practice common words that you’d need. She wouldn’t know more specialized words, though. Her email is fanghu716@yahoo.com.tw; her name is Yvonne Hu. I’ve had very positive feedback from her students.
