Had recently moved back to Taiwan from Canada (dual citizenship) and have these following questions.
Is it mandatory to report our working income in Taiwan to Canada?
If yes, are we getting double taxed? Taxed by Taiwan AND Canada?
Advantages and disadvantages in reporting my income to Canada?
Anything that will affect my tax in Taiwan if reported to Canada?
I cannot answer your question directly nor offer advice as I am not authorized or a tax professional so I cannot offer you legal advice. However, I can say that the USA is the only country that taxes its citizens outside of their home country. I have no idea of Canada’s taxing system or who should pay and who should not, you should contact the Canadian tax authorities to resolve your issue.
It all depends on whether one has “taxable” status in Canada. Bank accounts, property, even a driver’s license can be taken as maintaining links in Canada.
Of course, I cannot offer advice that could be construed as illegal, or in any way attempting to flout the Rules & Regulations of The Government of Canada.
That said, never offer any information to Revenue Agencies unless specifically asked.
If one wants to be entirely sure, then I suggest one contact the CRA. cra-arc.gc.ca/cntct/menu-eng.html
What Ginger Man said. Citizenship is not relevant to taxation, but residency ties to Canada (as deemed by the relevant authorities) are. I’d advise you to do more research about this ASAP.
