:ohreally: Ask for the Alphonso variety!! You should get them at the price of gold!!!
Old pics, but this is how it gets done at our place
haha thats how it gets done at my house too cept I got me pants on !!
p.s. alphonso? But the thing is have you ever seen em outside of India???
iv never seeen em anywhere iv travelled in asia and they are not available here in calif. we get mostly mexican. I think iv seen phillippino once or twice but thats it.
Tommy I have never been out of Asia!! But Mango Export is a HUGE revenue generating industry and the Chinese donât have a taste for them so I am assuming a lot gets shipped to Europe and stateside. I know, all the elite hotels lap them up but Indians in Mei guo land have them too. Maybe go looking at an Indian grocery store or sth. There could be another reason you donât see them, the folks originating from the subcontinent must be at it like a pack of hungry wolves
Yes I would think because it is still relatively uncommon a fruit that they would be keen on getting (more then) their fair share ASAP> Iv never seen Indian mango here in the bay area. Iv never seen an Indian supermarket either, but If i see one I will go and check it out. OR i can ask the people at the indian restaurants i frequent if they can get INdian mangos.
Ratnagiri Alphonsoâs are the bestâŠlike D said you should get them at the price of goldâŠthe only thing that can beat Alphonso mangoes is Aamras made using Alphonso mangoes
India is the biggest producer of mangoes but the local demand is so so high that hardly anything is left for exportâŠthere are quiet a few varities that I have never seen anywhere else except in IndiaâŠ
I got the local ones which are grown in the Pingdong / Taidong area and they are pretty goodâŠ
NTD10 per mango at the market today, yay!
You lucky sons of beaches ! I can get Mexican , a box for 10 bucks (bout 12 i think). But they really aint no good. They are phillippine variety I think but not even as good. Poor imitation of the TW ones.
Where do you shop??? I got 2 for 50 today and a papaya for 30.
Tommy -
Do you have a Ranch 99 Market around you?
I canât believe you can find mangoes in the Bay area.

YES im happy to say they opened up one a few mins drive from me. And they got this box of mexican grown phil variety mangos ( yellow ones bout the size of the wild taiwan mango) for 9 bucks for bout 12 of em. But they are not really in the same league as TW wild mangos. And they got bout 8 of em green and orange larger mango types (seems similar to ones in TW) for bout 5 bucks. But you know? They dont taste that good either. Both of em are not that tasty. ME sad. I LOVE mangos.
TMan -
Let them ripen a bit and see if the taste improves.
Then put 'em in the fridgedator for cooling down.
Their sugar content should rise as they ripen. Make 'em sweeter to eater.
Hope that helps.

I know I know. But the thing is. I can NOT keep mangos in the house. They gotta be ready to eat when I get em, because a mango has not survived ONE nite in my house.
Does everyone know why some people say Mango is âpoisonâ fruit here?! They said you cant have too many of them while you are injured or not feeling well. Or you are gonna get sick by eating too many? (whats definition of too many?)
I am not feeling well coz Im not having enough of them. :lick:

Its supposed to be a âhotâ fruit like durian. So therefore too much is bad for your bod , at one time. Same as Long yien (dragon eye). One can have more âcoolâ fruits like watermelon.

That is why we soak the mangoes in water for atleast half an hour, killing its heat. Mangoes can give you the runs and also skin breakouts, but it is worth all that!

WOW never heard of that. Seems almost like sorcery??
Well as sorcerous as calling a food âhotâ or âcoldâ. Even our traditional medicine, Ayurveda has these concepts. Take it or leave it.
Man (and women) have lived a long time and eaten many a fruit. There probably is at least some basis to the old wives tales.

At one one the fruit shops in Wuxing St, in Xinyi. Most of them did not look amazing, but after 2mins of digging I found some very decent ones
