if I wanted to buy mantou from the supermarket, would I be better off taste and texture wise if I got the frozen or refrigerated stuff?
If you’re not going to finish it in a day or two, you may as well get the frozen. They taste fine. That’s what I’ve learned anyway
Get fresh ones and freeze any that you don’t eat.
By fresh do you mean refrigerated or go to some specialty shop to get the catch of the day?
There should be a mantou shop in every neighborhood.
I don’t like shopping for piecemeal stuff though I can see how getting them fresh would have it’s advantages.
Trying to get the most out of my Carrefour experience - they offer refrigerated and frozen.
If you can find some little old lady/man selling bags of hand made ones out the back of a blue truck, you’re normally onto a winner.
Get a bag full have some fresh and freeze the rest for later.
I think it’s worthwhile to support those little shops. And they taste so much better, and probably cheaper. In Taiwan, you can get a bunch and get a discount.
Get frozen then let them unfreeze and use them as fresh mantou.
If you have a car or scooter , it only takes few minutes (at some you just need yell out the window). Most open at night/ overight till morning hours.
get the frozen stuff.
we had some recently, they’re really fine.
