This is silly. Taiwan is only 220 km from China at the widest part of the Taiwan Strait.
China’s geographic interest in Taiwan is far more defensive than offensive. A Taiwan aligned with the US is a threat to China, as it theoretically gives the US a base very close to China’s shores from which to menace China; a Taiwan controlled by China provides very little additional advantage to China over what it already has in terms of being able to strike the West Coast.
The guy should have looked at a map before he suggested Taiwan would be China’s Hawaii.
