Massive frustration with new Laptop and old Itunes

AAAAAAAAAArgh

This isn’t even my problem but it’s affecting me hehehe.
My flatmate bought a new laptop.
She has an old desktop that has I-tunes with 10GB worth of music on.

She downloaded I-tunes into her new laptop using the I-tunes CD.
She then connected her I-pod, and of course it said ‘do you want to syncronize’ which will mean that everything gets wiped because there is no music in her new I-tunes on the laptop.

So I give her my external HD and she copies all her music(from her I-tunes library on the old desktop) into my HD, and copies it directly into her new I-tunes Library. Everything plays, until she disconnects my HD…then it can’t find the original copy.

so she downloads the songs again…but into her documents on C drive(the same drive the I-tunes is on) and again, the moment my HD is disconnected it can’t find it.

How on earth do you get all your old songs into your new I-tunes without deleting everything on your Ipod?

First, I’d delete the library on the laptop. Then under Preferences: Advanced, make sure that the iTunes music folder location is pointed at wherever you want the music to be on the laptop and that “Copy music to iTunes Music folder” is checked. Then copy the music into iTunes again.

Edit: Try this first before the one above. With the external drive plugged in, make sure the iTunes music folder location is pointed at wherever you want under Preferences: Advanced. Then under the main menu go to Advanced, then Consolidate Library.

I’m going to sound so dumb…but what Preferences are you talking about?

I found it I found it:)

That helped:) It started downloading the 1000something songs, then halfway through said it can’t copy it to the disk ‘acer’ because the file name is too long or invalid. So she has 700 songs on there now(that play) but doesn’t know which copied or not…ayooooo.
